The Union County Sheriff’s Department, in collaboration with GoMo Health, has launched the First Responders Resiliency Program. This digital initiative is designed to support first responders and their families by addressing emotional, mental, and physical stressors associated with their roles.
Peter Corvelli, Union County Sheriff, emphasized the need for such a program, stating: “First responders face intense challenges every day, often without time or tools to process the trauma they experience. This program is a much-needed resource to protect the mental and emotional health of those who protect us.”
Union County Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes M. Leon added: “Mental health is public safety, and we have to treat it that way. This program reflects a cultural shift—one where we stand firmly in support of our law enforcement officers and emergency responders by meeting them with care, compassion, and real tools to help carry the weight they never asked for but always show up to bear.”
The program provides confidential support through a secure mobile platform. It includes peer-based support networks, training for supervisors on PTSD and trauma management, and resources for family members. The content is personalized based on participants’ needs.
Bob Gold, Chief Behavioral Technologist at GoMo Health, remarked: “By working together, we’re helping first responders feel seen, supported, and empowered. This program was built with their voices, and for their lives.”
Currently available to all Union County first responders, the initiative plans to expand across New Jersey in the coming year.
