The Union County Board of County Commissioners announced on Apr. 2 that it will distribute $300,500 in funding to 44 organizations through the 2026 Union County Local Arts Grant Program. The funds are part of a larger $434,400 grant awarded by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts to the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.

Commissioner Chairman Joseph C. Bodek said, “The arts are an essential part of what makes our communities vibrant and connected. These grants are an investment in the organizations that bring people together, inspire creativity, and enhance quality of life across Union County. We are proud to support their continued work and the meaningful experiences they provide to our residents.”

The annual grant program supports a variety of arts initiatives throughout Union County with the goal of expanding access to cultural programming and strengthening local arts groups. This year’s recipients include theater companies, music ensembles, libraries offering educational programs for children and seniors, public art projects, festivals, workshops for at-risk teens, as well as multi-disciplinary classes for individuals with disabilities.

A total of 44 organizations will benefit from this funding. Among them are ACP Arts Ink; CDC Theatre; Choral Art Society of New Jersey Inc.; duCret School of the Arts; Elizabeth Youth Theater Ensemble; Friends of Summit Public Art; Kenilworth Public Library; Plainfield Symphony Society; The Community Players; The Theater Project; Westfield Community Band Inc.; YWCA of Eastern Union County and many others who received varying amounts in support for general operations or specific programs such as concerts or community art classes.

Commissioner Rebecca L. Williams said: “Through these grants, we are able to support an incredible range of arts programming that reflects the diversity, creativity, and talent found throughout Union County. From performances and exhibitions to educational opportunities for residents of all ages, these organizations play a vital role in enriching our communities and making the arts accessible to all.”

Funding for this program is provided by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.

Local groups interested in learning more about available grants can contact the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs by email or phone as listed in county materials.
