Diana Calle, a Kean University alumna, has taken on the role of director at Union County's Office of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs. Raised in Ecuador, Calle was inspired by women working in office jobs during visits to the United States. She expressed her ambition to pursue a career at 14, despite her family's unfamiliarity with higher education.

Calle achieved a B.A. in public administration and psychology from Kean University in 2012 and an M.A. in public administration three years later. Her current position involves providing social and recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities and special needs.

Born in the U.S., Calle moved to Ecuador as a toddler but returned at age 14 to start high school in Elizabeth. Learning English posed challenges, but she values her bilingual abilities today. "It is truly rewarding to serve in a role where I have the opportunity to assist members of my community," she said.

Her journey included overcoming language barriers with support from Supera, Kean's Spanish-speaking program. She contributed back by volunteering for Supera and serving on student councils while attending university.

Supera Director Rosa Paulino praised Calle: "Diana has gracefully shared her journey with Supera’s community." Beyond Kean, Calle is involved with HISPA, Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Incorporated, and the League of Women Voters.

Calle credits Morgan Laury, Ed.D., one of her professors at Kean, for teaching her that work ethic would prove her value beyond academic qualifications. Starting as an entry-level employee after graduation, she worked diligently towards career advancement.

Sara Peña ’96 recognized Calle's leadership qualities: “Through her persistence and resilience, she has continued to break down barriers.”

Recently, Calle launched The Young Women Foundation in Elizabeth to inspire young women toward leadership roles within their communities. "I want to inspire young women to adopt valuable strategies and reach new heights," she stated.
