Explore the hidden corners of Union County

Explore the hidden corners of Union County during the annual Four Centuries in a Weekend countywide cultural celebration, this Saturday October 15 and Sunday October 16. The event includes three dozen historical sites along with special tours, exhibits and activities.

In Mountainside, visit the 1760’s Deacon Andrew Hetfield House featuring a Revolutionary War battlefield diorama populated by hundreds of hand painted soldiers.

In New Providence, tour the Salt Box Museum and explore the Presbyterian Church cemetery.

In Plainfield, the Drake House Museum, duCret School of Art and Plainfield Quaker Meeting House are all open for tours and exhibits, featuring the Drake House Film Festival.

The Plainfield Public Library also has two historic exhibits on display: “A Photographic Journey through Union County History” by photographer Nancy Ori, and “Beef, Iron and Wine,” featuring vintage medicinal bottles from the Historical Society of Plainfield.

For information on all 36 participating Four Centuries sites, including a map and a list of activities throughout Union County, visit the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs online at https://ucnj.org/parks-recreation/cultural-heritage-affairs/  (ucnj.org/cultural).
