Businesses along Irving Street and West Main Street in Rahway will remain open during the year-long reconstruction of the Irving Street Bridge. The bridge, which connects Central Avenue to Seminary Avenue, is currently closed as part of a long-term project by Union County.

To help customers access these businesses, parking options have been arranged. On the north side of the bridge, parking is available at 1654 Irving Street near Seminary Avenue. On the south side, free parking can be found at the Hamilton Street lot, one block from Central Avenue and Irving Street.

The following businesses on Irving Street are open: Navi Nail Salon (1673), Magralo Boutique (1667), Zulley’s Beauty Bar (1657), Creative Tax Services (1659), Diamond Studio Lash & Brows/PMU School (1649-1653), Charlie’s Flowers & Gourmet Baskets (1645), Penn Properties (1614), and SG’s Corner Mart (1608). Businesses on West Main Street that remain open include Caido Del Cielo (221 W. Main St.), Nail Rehab and Spa (205 W. Main St.), and Rahway Kitty Hall (209 W. Main St.).

Research indicates that small businesses play an important role in local economies by keeping more revenue circulating within their communities. When people spend money at local independent businesses, those dollars often support other nearby companies, suppliers, and services.

Small businesses also improve neighborhoods by increasing access to amenities and contributing to overall community well-being. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, they generate about two-thirds of net new jobs in the country and make up nearly half of all economic activity.

Ongoing support from residents and visitors is seen as essential for maintaining a strong small business environment in Rahway during this period of construction.

The Rahway Special Improvement District stated its mission “is to promote the economic well-being of all businesses within the City of Rahway and maintain a strong partnership between arts and business communities.” The organization added that it “is committed to fostering a stronger, more unified business community in Rahway.”
