The Monmouth County Vocational School District, Brookdale Community College, and Kean University have announced a new nursing pathway program called “Nursing Bridge to Excellence,” set to launch in Fall 2025. This initiative aims to provide Monmouth County high school students with real-world healthcare experience while offering an affordable route to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
“The Bridge Program offers Monmouth County high school students a unique opportunity to gain real-world healthcare experience while pursuing a clear, affordable pathway to an in-demand college degree,” stated Charles R. Ford, Jr., Ed.D., Superintendent of the Monmouth County Vocational School District. He emphasized that the partnership empowers students to achieve their dreams, save money, and contribute positively to their communities.
Thomas A. Arnone, Director of the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners, remarked on the importance of this collaboration: “This innovative partnership addresses the critical nursing shortage by creating a seamless pathway to success. Together, we’re equipping future nurses with the skills needed to keep Monmouth County healthy and thriving, while ensuring access to affordable, high-quality education for our community.”
Students will begin their studies at the Monmouth County Vocational School District before transitioning into Brookdale Community College for an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). They will then move on to Kean University to complete their BSN. This model guarantees admission without reapplication stress and ensures smooth academic progression.
Kean University President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D., highlighted the significance of such pathways: “Pathways that establish vital programs like this are crucial for cultivating a much-needed workforce in the healthcare sector.” He noted that Kean is responding actively to the demand for skilled nurses by enhancing accessibility and affordability in higher education.
David M. Stout, Ph.D., President of Brookdale Community College, expressed enthusiasm about removing educational barriers: “This program represents an extraordinary opportunity for students to achieve their dreams of becoming highly qualified nursing professionals.”
The program also includes comprehensive student support through academic advising and mentorship. Graduates will be well-prepared for leadership roles within healthcare settings where BSN credentials are increasingly preferred.
