Assemblywoman Michele Matsikoudis, who represents New Jersey’s 21st legislative district, used her social media platform this week to highlight ongoing concerns over state housing mandates and to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
On December 1, Matsikoudis addressed her constituents by sharing a previous episode of her regular update series. In her post, she stated: “Happy Monday, District 21! Today’s edition of #MondaysWithMichele is a rerun of Episode 166 from earlier this year. I’ve stood firm in advocating for our state to address the rampant overdevelopment of our communities due to high-density housing mandates. (1/2)” She followed up with another message on the same day, adding: “(2/2) It remains my sincere hope that one day the legislature will step up to the plate on this and work to protect the character of our communities once again.

Two days later, on December 3, Matsikoudis turned her attention toward disability advocacy. She posted: “On Dec. 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we reaffirm our steadfast solidarity with residents with disabilities. Through initiatives like seeking to create a state Commission on People with Disabilities (A294), I’ve been proud to be an accessibility advocate!”
High-density housing mandates have become a significant issue in New Jersey as state requirements push municipalities to accommodate more affordable housing units. This has prompted debate among lawmakers and local officials about balancing growth with preserving community character.
The reference in Matsikoudis’ tweet to Assembly Bill A294 points to legislation intended to establish a commission focused on issues facing people with disabilities in New Jersey. The proposal reflects ongoing efforts within the state government aimed at improving accessibility and supporting residents living with disabilities.
