Kean University theatre students and alumni recently showcased their talents at one of the state’s largest combined audition events, partnering with the New Jersey Theatre Alliance for the two-day Combined Auditions held at Enlow Recital Hall on the University’s East Campus.

"We get slots that are really hard to get. So it's a really good opportunity for us to grow in our career. Plus it’s right here at Kean," expressed graduating theatre performance senior Eitan Hiller from Linden.

Theatre performance alumnus Christian Cordova ’23, who flew in from Florida for the auditions, commended Kean for providing "this great opportunity to introduce ourselves to industry professionals and branch out."

John Wooten, producing artistic director of Premiere Stages at Kean University, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “To audition for so many people who could potentially hire you is an incredible opportunity.”

The auditions saw students and alumni performing monologues and songs, with Jessica DeLuca ’22, a theatre alumna, securing a role with The Theater Project shortly after showcasing her talent.

Following the auditions, performers engaged in a Q&A session with casting director Pat McCorkle and agent Jenna Winnett from New York, who shared insights on the casting process and encouraged actors to be proactive in their careers.

Holly Logue, a Professor at the Kean Theatre Conservatory, highlighted the unique opportunities Kean provides due to its proximity to New York, offering access and opportunities not available at many other universities.

Tyler Sautner, a senior theatre student, expressed his gratitude for the chance to showcase his work, stating, “Auditioning is very hard work, and being able to be at a place where you are able to showcase your work to so many people at once is truly a gift.”
